Experts from Parking Perspectives have been helping to develop the future of parking for Blue Badge holders.

Andrew Potter and Graham James each presented some latest thinking to local authorities, stakeholders and suppliers at the Blue Badge & Accessible Parking conference.

Andrew Potter looked at whether the national Blue Badge parking rules are still fit for meeting today’s needs. Originally set in the 1970s, the rules allow blue badge holders to park on yellow lines in certain circumstances, and without time limit in paid on-street spaces. Are these rules still right for today? Do they effectively serve both blue badge holders and other road users?

Graham James showed attendees an innovative approach to managing the provision of accessible parking in a busy town centre where there are multiple competing demands for kerbspace. This approach, developed by Parking Perspectives, provides a structured way of identifying the best level of access that can be achieved for Blue Badge holders, while also reflecting other important needs. Graham reported on how it was tested in a real town centre to address long-standing concerns over the availability of Blue Badge parking and the need for a consistent policy footing.

Blue Badge & Accessible Parking 2026, organised by Landor Links, was held in central London on 29th September, with attendees from across the UK and beyond.
